Its race day at Bathurst 2024, the crowd is electric and big, the weather is perfect and the cars are primed for an absolute hammering across the mountain at Australia’s Great Race, Mount Panorama.
Who will win? What chaos will unfold? There is sure to many a controversy, dissapointment, exhileration and heroes. with 13 laps complete at time of writing it has been a fairly calm start with Kostecki retaining his pole start to be leading with Feeny and Stanaway next in line.
We will update this Bathurst Race entry as events unfold…
Update: 12:58
Race 20, Lap 37, The Great Race continues with mostly co-drivers in the seat sees Hazelwood leading Whincup and Pye. No major incidents, just a few small tangles, lockups, overshoots and a missed fuel drop…. the excitement continues.
Update: 2pm, lap 67
With a mixed driver lineup currently running of main and co-drivers out on track, the standings look like this; Kostecki, Whincup, Brown, LeBrocq, De Pasquale, Lowndes.
With a few fuel stops taking place and most (possibly all) have completed a brake change, it looks set for a strong field to complete the race, I dont belive anyone has retired at this stage…
Update: 3.11pm, lap 100
So we have reached lap 100 without a safety car! 61 laps to go and still the pole sitters of Kosteki/Hazelwood lead. I believe they have lead every lap to date (minus any pitstop shuffles).
Its a 12.5 second gap back to second where Feeney/Whincup still find themselves. With the sun still beating down, no rain in sight, will we see a 161 lap green race or will the concrete barriers finally introduce themselves to one unfortunate team?..
Update: 4.21pm, lap 131
Still GREEN!
As I type the first safety car comes out on lap 132 due to Matt Payne stopping on track after hitting the wall at the cutting.
Let the Pit stop mad rush commence. We will have around 27 laps to finish the race.
Who gambles on fuel, what tyres do they change? Any balance mods?
Wow, Bathurst nearly always finishes with qualy laps to the flag.
Update: Chequred Flag
KOSTECKI/HAZELWOOD – KINGS OF THE MOUNTAIN
Brodie has just dominated all weekend. Congrats!
Red Bull also have a great team finish with Feeney/Whincup and Brown/Pye standing on the podium steps.
Great race, very little incidents and just total dominance from the Erubus #1 car.
